Recommendations of the ‘Sexual Services – Improving the Framework for the Prevention of Exploitation’ working group
The central component of the regulations is a comprehensive legal framework for protection against (sexual) violence and safeguarding of sexual integrity, which also provides for special criminal offences that target situations at risk of exploitation.
Another core element of the Austrian system is the provision of counselling services to sex workers to educate them about their rights and obligations. This is because improving sex workers’ knowledge also has a preventive effect against exploitation and violence. In addition, counselling centres enable trust-building contact with sex workers, thus providing a necessary tool for effective crime prevention.
The PiA advice centre is the point of contact for sex workers in Salzburg.
