Human rights and sex work

Panel discussion with Ruby Rebelde & Christine Nagl

ARGE Salzburg, Friday, 28 February 2025, 7 pm

The human rights of sex workers are often ‘forgotten’ when sex work is discussed in society. Although experiences of violence are repeatedly mentioned, structural reasons for violence are often ignored, as is the human rights dimension. This results in moralising and often distorted images of sex work and sex workers, which further increases the patronising and disempowerment of sex workers. How can we successfully have a human rights-based discussion and actually improve the living and working conditions of sex workers? If we want to take the wind out of the sails of the hatred of sex workers, we cannot ignore the structures and participation of sex workers.
